| - My girlfriends and I look forward to restaurant week in Las Vegas the way others anticipate the start of, oh, football season or the birth of their first born. Several of us, having spent considerable time in Greece were doubly excited about our reservation at Petra on Labor Day, for dinner. I called at the start of restaurant week and the troubles began when the hostess taking my reservation insisted that I did not understand when restaurant week ends. It took asking her to clarify with her manager and being on hold for several minutes to verify that Petra would a) be open on labor day and b) that restaurant week doesn't end until 9/11. The arranging of child care and coordinating of husbands' schedules commenced and we arrived, starving, at 545. Interestingly, the doors were locked, yet diners were present seemingly enjoying their meal. We called into the restaurant as we stood in view outside and proceeded to be told by Tish, the GM, that "the owners decided to close the restaurant at 5 tonight because the shops were closing at 6. We called and cancelled all the reservations." After explaining that we had not been called and that we had taken pains to verify the holiday hours and restaurant week, Tish rudely inquired what exactly we expected her to do to about our problem. After several minutes discussing customer service and the non profit donations associated with restaurant week, she begrudging offered up "one free appetizer" if we would "come back tomorrow night". Thanks, Tish, but I think not. As we walked away we noted how busy all the other restaurants at Tivoli Square seemed to be as well as their closing time of ten pm and happily spent our money elsewhere, confident in the knowledge that any establishment under the management of Tish, will not be open long.
