| - My favorite way to spend a Saturday late morning/early afternoon. One of, if not the best, place in the Midwest to get such a variety of fresh, local (as in all in-state), and most of all, amazing tasting produce, cheese, meat, breads, and treats.
I've never been to the Farmer's Market before 7am, but I hear that's a good time to go if you can wake up that early. We usually went around 11:30am. There is still a crowd, but we usually take our kids, and wagon, and fight our way to a spot on the grass. My husband or I will put down a picnic blanket and hang out while the kids run around and the other goes out and gets some snacks--our favorites include Stella's spicy cheese bread (apparently everyone and their mom loves Stella's, too) AND spinach empanadas, Jamie's & Son Bakery's baklava, Farmer John's cheese curds, kettle popcorn, fresh peas (pod & all raw), and berries--and food for the week.
In addition to the great food, it's always fun to just sit and watch people walk around and around, enjoy the music being played, and just soak up the sights and sounds of the beautiful city that is Madison.
