In the name of donuts everywhere I think it's my duty to go out on a limb and say that these are simply not the best donuts in Pittsburgh. The chocolate icing is more of a candy topping, same for the white glaze. Ultra sugary. Ultra sugary.
And yes donuts and icings are sugary, but we're talking three more degrees in the double boiler and these donuts are topped with hard candy.
The dough and the fry, a good bake- crunchy on the outside soft in the middle. somewhere in between a traditional cake doughnut and a sour cream-based cake doughnut-at certain points the brown fried crispy edges overwhelmed the soft cakey center. The cinnamon sugar white cake I tried was the best of the bunch.
All in all, I really sincerely think that the allure of a product that sells out before 9 AM drums up publicity and panache for these donuts.
