| - It's a nice place, but having visited here a couple of times, and having visited a couple of other upscale hotels in the area, gotta say my most recent visit left me a little disappointed.
First, I tried the use the fitness center, and this place is tiny. A couple of treadmills, a couple of cardio machines, about 6 weight machines, and that was it. Very disappointing. (The pool doesn't really bother me, but as others noted, it's very small and not really made for swimming, just dunking a bit.)
Second, I could sense that the facilities felt a little dated. Yes, marble's there and the classic Victorian look, but it feels... I don't know, a little old. The elevators look older. The carpets feel older. I don't know how else to put it, because I can't quite put my finger on it.
Staff, as always, was very nice. But it doesn't mean I had a flawless visit. First, at checkin, they asked if what paper I wanted. I said, WSJ. They said, no problem. Except in the morning, I got the USA Today. Small detail? Totally. But annoying? sure.
Also, during the stay they slipped a note under the door (like everyone got, I guess) that they were doing hot water repairs from 1-4 am. That's what I think it said, because the note I got was printed on a printer that was running out of ink and toner. Then, at 5:15 am, when I showered, there was still no hot water. If you say 4 am, you've gotta mean 4 am--don't overpromise.
I had a couple of meals there, and the food was good. Conference facilities are nice. (And don't get me started on the price of Internet--whew! Around $5 for an hour, $10 for a day, $40 for a week.)
But as another reviewer noted, this feels much more corporate than luxury resort. I'd completely agree. There are a few places in Scottsdale with much more the resort vibe. So pick carefully.
