| - I don't like to complain - I really don't - but when a company flagrantly tries to dupe my daughter into an $800.00 repair that is not needed whatsoever, I am compelled to say something so that others may be wary and not be taken advantage of.
A few months ago, my daughter, age 25, brought her vehicle in for a routine oil change at this AutoNation. During the mechanic's inspection, he told her they had found that her power steering pump had a small leak in it and should be replaced soon - at a cost of around $800.00 for the new pump and labor.
After bringing her vehicle home, I looked and did not find the pump to be leaking - in fact, up until the time of her inspection and even up until now, a few months later, I have not observed any leaks at all under her vehicle and her power steering works just fine.
Two days ago, she brought her vehicle to a local mechanic (not a dealership) for a second opinion. After looking at the pump, he stated there was absolutely no leak at all and the pump did not need to be replaced - and this is coming from a mechanic who could have told her otherwise and replaced it for a lower price than AutoNation - but he was honest.
I am extremely disappointed in the mechanic at AutoNation for lying to my daughter and telling her this repair was needed, when it absolutely was not. I feel he was just trying to get a sale and take advantage of someone who knows nothing about mechanical repairs of vehicles - furthering the stereotype of mechanics/dealerships who take advantage of people. It's actually really sick behavior and he should feel ashamed.
Congratulations AutoNation - you just lost my business and my daughter's business. I know it won't mean anything to a big corporation such as yourselves - we're just numbers - I get it. But I feel better knowing I won't be supporting immoral behavior. Peace.
