  • Penny was our tour guide and she was lovely. As a quick preface, I am an experienced rider (I give riding instruction and lead youth on trail rides at a summer camp). Two beginner friends and I went on a trail ride here. We were the only ones in the group, which was lucky because the guide kept going on about how busy they are all the time. She was passionate about riding and very knowledgable about the area and had a lot of interesting historical stories to tell us throughout the ride. We had a Groupon for two people, and the owner allowed us to get the third person's spot for the same price, which was super nice of him to do. The woman at the front desk almost didn't allow it because she didn't believe that we actually spoke to him over the phone since we couldn't remember his name. Not a big deal, she was nice otherwise. They did not ask any of us our riding level and as such did not try to match us with skill-appropriate horses (which I always do no matter the difficulty level of a trail). They handed out horses based on height and weight, which is normal, but put my inexperienced friend on a relentless plant-eater and me on a slug. I didn't have a problem with this so much since we were taking a 1.5 walking trail, but I do think the stable should take this into consideration. When our ride was over, our guide told us someone would be over to help us get down shortly. She didn't say to stay on and wait, so habitually I dismounted and waited patiently by my horse. An older man came around and started scolding me for dismounting by myself, saying something along the lines of being an insurance liability and asked me to explain myself. Hahahaha. He mentioned something about English riders are going to get themselves hurt that way? He really should have been nicer about it.
