Pittsburgh has an escape room!
This escape room just opened in November, 2014 and it is a lot of fun, especially if you like solving puzzles
You have an hour to solve a series of puzzles to escape a room. There are lot of red herrings and a lot of time is spent trying to figure out what is a useful clue or puzzle and what is not. The rooms are not scary and I think younger kids can also enjoy them too (probably 10 and above).
The puzzles are well put together and there is clue system to help prevent you from getting stuck on one thing for too long. You can either take a clue on an iPad in the center of the room or the people running the place will also knock on the door and slide a clue under the door occasionally.
The place does seem quite busy. We had to sign up for a time slot over a week in advance. Dr Stein's Laboratory accommodates 8 people and Prison Escape 6.
Other people from outside your group may also sign up for your time slot if you do not completely fill it. We were pretty close to escaping in time but alas, made a critical mistake. It was still really fun.
I think the place is a bit on the pricey side: $27 per person for an hour of fun.
We did Dr. Stein's Laboratory and felt that the group of 8 was a little on the large side--probably 3 to 5 would have been better for effective communication and more fun for everyone (it seemed like a few people in our group didn't feel that involved).
Overall, a fun time and definitely worth a visit. The owner's said they plan to switch up the rooms about once a year.
