| - I went to visit the location in Mesa, AZ.
It was my first time visiting Cornish Patsy. I don't even know what a patsy is but I wanted to do a phone order. So I called in at noon on a Sunday for a phone order. I ordered the Oggie since it seems like the popular item on the menu. I also wanted to try the oven baked chips, so I ordered that with garlic and jalapenos.
When I arrived there, it had a fun, vibrant bar atmosphere. I like the decor, I noticed the whiskey bottles had this icicles on it. I went to the cashier/front to pick up my phone order. The cashier was very nice and responsive to my needs. Since my order wasn't ready, he kept asking me if I would like a drink. The wait staff also seems responsive and quick to others.
In terms of the food, the oggie was delicious. It was my first time trying an oggie. The outside was baked nicely and crispy. It wasn't soggy. It had a nice crisp but soft texture. The inside filling was soft and the flavors went well together. The red wine gravy also added great flavors to the oggie. Gravy was slightly sweet but also savory, so it brought out the flavors of the onions, potatoes and the beef of the inside of the oggie. The oven baked chips tasted like typical oven fries. The added garlic was delicious but the garlic aroma/flavor wasn't as strong as I would like. The jalapenos definitely added a kick to it, I wasn't expecting it to be that spicy. I ate the fries with the jalapeno and found it to be very spicy. Whenever I had garlic with the fries, it was delicious but I wanted more garlic to it.
Oggie reminds me of San Francisco's version of a peasant pie but slightly bigger and the outside has more flavor to it. It seems buttery, flakely. The SF one reminds me of a pot pie without a crispy crust.
