| - I brought my dog here because he was dragging his bum on the floor and trying to lick the area constantly. I looked up possible reasons for this on Google, and most responses indicated he needed his anal glands drained. (Gross I know). So a friendly and patient vet came in to discuss options with me. I requested a price breakdown before I committed to anything. Then he left the room and a tall unfriendly man (I dubbed him 'the enforcer') came in with the price breakdown. There was a $50 fee added for 'Incidentals'. I asked what this was for and the enforcer said it was in case my dog needed to be sedated during the draining of his anal glands. I said I saw many vets and pet owners do this on YouTube and sedation was never discussed, or deemed necessary. Then he said it would be up to the vet to decide if it was necessary, when they perform the procedure in the back. He really tied to pressure me into consenting to this fee. I said I would prefer that the procedure happen in front of me. 1. Because I can calm my dog down best so he wouldn't need to be sedated. 2. How do I know if he needed sedation or not if it happened behind closed doors? ( My intuition we telling me something was up). I said I thought that the $50 'Incidental' fee was suspicious. The enforcer left the room, realizing I was on to him. Then the friendly first vet returned to the room. He kindly said he would do it in front of me. It took 1 minute and my dog was fine. When I told him I didn't understand what the $50 Incidental fee was for, he told me it was in case they needed a stool analysis. (Completely different explanation than the one given by the enforcer). It was obviously just a cash grab, with no medical justification or reasoning. Then I brought the fee breakdown to the counter to pay. Without the $50 Incidental fee my bill should have been $203. The receptionist advised me my bill was $290. After having them explain to me how the bill jumped $90, and after 5 minutes of awkward insistence on my part, they realized they 'mistakenly' charged me 1.5 times a unit of something. A mistake I'm sure had they realized or checked afterwards, if it was legitimate, I never would have been reimbursed for. These people are not trustworthy at all. While the vets who work here and at other locations around town are excellent, as are the friendly and welcoming receptionists. The management are lying, thieving, capitalists. With no regard for your pets welfare or your wallet. If you chose to go here, insist on speaking with just the vet during your appointment, and make sure everything is itemized clearly and that they know you are on to them.
