Hipster vibes with classy eats
Plaza Midwood is kicking and Soul Gastrolounge is no exception. Soul is located on the second level, so don't try to go to the front door. With the doors opening at 5pm and them not taking reservations I suggest arriving early if you want to eat at a decent time. Soul is also on the app "Nowait", where you can put your name on the list only if there is a wait.
Arriving at 6:30pm on a Friday night it was almost an hour wait if we wanted to eat inside. We sat on the enclosed balcony. This area also has heat lamps and overlooks the skyline, not a bad deal. I wanted to sit inside because it was our first time at Soul, but waiting over an hour was not going to fly.
Libations
A lot of their specialty drinks are on tap which I found interesting. The Feeling Squirrley was an awesome beverage, but I don't think it was worth $13.
Cucumber Mule was light refreshing and had just the kick it needed.
Grubs
Keep in mind these are tapas //small plates. You should share with folks, but when you have a veggie and a meat eater together it's a little hard. We opted to share a sushi and then get our own small plate. The portions are decently sized for being tapas.
+Dirty South Nachos, the pickled okra was the best part of these. Felt a little overdone and trying too hard for Soul.
+Flatbread- this is the reason I would bring someone to Soul. This flatbread had my taste buds jumping for joy.
+Dancing Tuna Roll- Seared tuna with avocado are what dreams are made of. This roll made up for the wait, the drinks and the chicken skin nachos. I can't even tell you about it because you'll just have to try it yourself.
Try to make it to Soul in the Summer right before sunset.
