  • I was really excited to see that a Green Grotto was opening up in downtown Toronto, as I am a fan of the one in Markham, but man oh man... It is so far a disappointment. I've been to this location twice, and even though this place is supposed to be under the same franchise as the one in Markham, I would rather drive half an hour up to the location in Markham than to go here. The quality is definitely subpar. I've read a lot of issues about service and wait times, but I personally have not encountered these issues. Perhaps they improved on that after seeing all the negative reviews? The place itself is clean, and has a fairly large selection of magazines. The free popcorn is a nice touch, which they also offer at the Markham location. I think the atmosphere is good for anyone wanting to get some work done, it's not very busy and there's a lot of light and table space. As for the drinks, they are overly sweet. I found this out the first time I came, and so I ordered my drink with NO sugar the second time around and it was still too sweet! I'm not sure if they just didn't make the drink properly, but everyone at the table complained that the drinks were too sweet. They really need to ease up on the sugar - it's possible to make drinks sweeter, but you can't unsweeten a drink. It is nice to be able to go to a sit-down bubble tea once in a while, so I really do hope this location improves in the near future before it goes out of business. For now, Jule, which is nearby, is a much better option for a sit-down bubble tea. Green Grotto does serve some ok food though (although it seemed like there was a smaller selection than the one in Markham), and the cakes are still decent, but as a bubble tea joint, it's not doing the job. Nevertheless, they deserve some stars for the decor, free popcorn, and the decent food and cakes.
