| - I'm updating my review from 2010 based on my experiences from last night July 5, 2013.
Firstly, the brand spanking new hotel.
If checking in and arriving by auto, proceed directly to the hotel.
Valet/Bellmen will happily park your car in the blazing sun right in front of the hotel. Not in the brand new covered parking garage.
Being new, I expected delays at check in, but staff was manning all stations, and it was quick and smooth. Received a second floor King room with a southern exposure of the mountains and my car baking away in the parking lot.
Bonus was the 55" Samsung flat screen. Made me almost feel at home.
Plenty of pillows, duvet on the bed, desk, office chair, as well as an overstuffed chair and ottoman. No refrigerator, coffee maker or radio. Free wi-fi is a plus.
Overall, nice, new room. Just what one would should expect of a limited service Hampton or Courtyard hotel room. 4 Stars
Up next. Ditka's
Drinks in the bar. Do yourself a favor and avoid the bar in the casino. The bartenders in Ditka's provide great service, and the clientele are a whole lot more refined.
Great Appetizers: Oysters on the half shell, Calamari, Tuna Roll
So-So Appetizer: Bruschetta
Dinner: Party of Five: Twin lobster tails - Perfectly prepared :)
Halibut - Really dry :(
Filet - Ordered MW - Prepared MR ;(
Signature 30 oz Bone-in Rib-eye - Ordered MR- Prepared R
Sent back for further broiling. Still on the bloody side. ;(
Dessert: Cream Brulee - Raspberry Cheesecake - Tasty but nothing special ;
Servers: Attentive and personable. :0
CASINO RANT :(
Note: This portion is mainly for VP players, but KENO addicts are sure to be disappointed as well.
I earlier wrote about VQ being a video poker hell, and never thought it could be worse. Well I was wrong. It is much much worse. How you ask, well let me tell you, The game selection at the New VQ is so BAD, that I now long for the old machines.
New VQ- $.25 nothing higher on Video Poker
New VQ- Only 16 Video Poker machines
New VQ- No Progressive VP
DDB is the most popular game in the history of VP and yet they don't have it.
Despite assurances from our host for the past three years that the new casino would be a great place to play VP, that didn't happen. It's more like a Glitter Gultch Grind Joint. Pennies rule the roost here. 1 cent, 2 cent, 3 cent.
Apparently their clueless Slot Director thinks that everyone on the westside of town is a poverty stricken, minimum wage earning, welfare recipient. Based on what I observed last night maybe he's right.
But on the other hand it doesn't explain why a couple of Platinum Players we know from LB who live on the westside promptly checked out right after dinner because in their words the Video Poker offerings were laughable to which I wholeheartedly agree.
I, like many others, had high hopes for a westside gambling venue that could truly compete, but they failed miserably in the game selection for the new VQ. It's almost like a competing casino had a mole working at VQ to sabotage them.
Oh well. There are five other casinos in the valley that offer VP. Some better than others, all better than VQ.
Based on what I've seen at the new VQ, I don't know how they are going to survive with their present business model once the T/O tribe builds their new hotel casino at Glendale/Westgate.
