| - I had my septum pierced here probably four or five years ago by Keith. That was great - very straight despite my difficult nose and healed wonderfully. Fast forward a few years, I've long since removed my septum piercing and decide to have my nostril pierced a second time. My first one didn't work out. When I went to the studio for my appointment, I told them I'd had issues with standard nose screws in the past simply being too big and uncomfortable for my nose - ultimately to the detriment of the piercing. The female piercer told me that they couldn't do a custom fit until it had healed. Ok. I've heard this before, although it conflicts with what many reputable body art resources state. I cross my fingers that my problems in the past were just due to something else. The procedure itself was fine, but within a few weeks, I had the dreaded bump as well as a hugely uncomfortable piercing. I continued sea salt soaks, and also tried every other natural remedy under the sun. Nothing. I went back and asked them if they would resize it, and they said that I should wait the two month healing period out and return after the bump had magically disappeared. I wait it out, keep trying soaks and compresses. Nothing.
I went back again and this time, the receptionist agreed that my jewelry was too big and agreed to resize it. It was a very messy process and it was difficult to put back in due to the amount of bumpage on the inside and outside of my nostril. Neverthless, the swelling goes down enormously despite the assurance that the trauma would make the bump worse. The results were quite good, but my nostril was still always red and a small bump remained.
I went back in recently - ten months after having it pierced - and asked the same piercer if she could try adjusting it one more time. No dice. She tells me she can't do it and tells me she knows how to get rid of the bump - simply continue the soaks and then put rubbing alcohol on it! Excuse me? I've tried the much less chemical method of diluted tea tree oil and even that just burned my skin and caused it to peal without resolving the problem.
I high tailed it out of there and went to another studio with a decent reputation in Calgary for a second opinion. The piercer there looked at it and said the jewelry was, indeed, ENORMOUS, and probably not bent properly. Great. She wasn't willing to try to resize it or even put one of her own pieces in because the bump on the INSIDE of my nostril is too extensive and she probably wouldn't be able to get it back in. Faced with either living with my red, bumpy nose forever or losing it - well, I decided the latter was probably the saner option.
Who knows - maybe I really am just ill-suited for a nostril piercings and it's just not in the stars for me. Either way, their aftercare advice is less than medically sound and their handiwork doesn't appear to impress other professionals. Too bad - but I wouldn't go back and I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone there.
