  • I have been going to other Palm Beach tanning salons for a few years now to help with not being terribly burnt when summer or vacation rolls around. Most of the time there are no problems, but today i found myself annoyed. First off they're pushy, and yes, i can understand that, they need to sell products. Every visit, i mean EVERY visit whoever's working tries to get me to spend my "tan dollars" that I've earned on an item from the over priced collection of colorful bottles they have displayed behind the counter. It's their job to do so, Im a licensed cosmetologist, i know how it goes. I also know i can get these products for much cheaper. Today however really rubbed me the wrong way. After asking for my last name the girl at the counter said to me "Can we just spend your tan dollars already?" And i said something like "No thank you, i dont need anything" she asked me what i was using and i told her the hemp lotion they talked me into getting when i first came to them. (I moved from Akron, and recently switched to this location) the girl was appalled. "You arent using any tanning lotion?!" I told her no, i dont want to use it, i burn easily. She gave me this speach about "Going in dry will make me more likely to burn, than going in with the lotion" that may be true, but she doesnt know I'm super sensitive to perfumes/chemicals. I break out, get rashes, and its not pretty. I also despise the feel of lotion. If i were going to use a lotion i would need to do a ton of research before hand, like i did the first time i bought the hemp lotion YEARS before i bought it again from them. If you're wondering, I take it slow when it comes to tanning, i know my skin, and tanning actually helpd with rashes i got in the past from an allergic reaction to a laundry detergent. I politely told her again that i was not interested in buying anything. She quickly said "well, how long do you want to go in today?" I told her "12 minutes", the length of time i believe i was in for last time. She said okay, you're all set in 17. I thanked her and walked away. When i was all set to tan i pressed the button to start the bed, and it said 15 minutes on the timer. Good thing i noticed. When the timer said 3 min left i got out. Now, was she trying to burn me with that extra 3 minutes? Im going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say no. Hopefully it was an honest mistake. She selected the wrong time on accident, or it is a possibility that the last time i went someone stuck me in for 15 and she was following what they did because i did say "12 minutes please, i think that's how long i was in there last time" when she asked. Who knows, i just know i wasnt happy with how it played out. I will keep going to this tanning salon because it could have been a mistake, and the location is super close to my apartment, but if something like that happens again im gonna close my account and go elsewhere.
