| - The first time that I bowled at Bowlarama was part of a fundraising event for Kids Help Phone in Toronto where teams of people gathered sponsorship money, hit the lanes, and threw out as many "King Pin", "Big Lubowski", and "Flintstones" references as possible. Our brigade was no different. Bowlarama has been gussied up ever so slightly so that it's family-friendly, but it's still a fantastic place to spend a day.
The décor is decidedly throw-back, be it retro or just that the furniture has never been replaced and the "old-is-the-new-new" style of things just caught up with it. Be that as it may, it's kinda fun. You have the choice of not only five or ten-pin bowling, but you're able to select "Rock & Bowl" lanes, where black lights light make the fluorescent bowling balls and white pins glow eerily while classic rock blares through the PA.
Pitchers of beer are available, as well as a functional snack bar for your hot dog and nacho needs. The day out is pretty inexpensive and these guys are built for leagues, individual play, or huge groups of fundraisers. Get your loudest and brashest bowling shirt on or don a full length purple jump suit and walk around threatening people not to "mess with the Jesus."
