  • Sweet Jesus. I went to Diamond Dental today because (a) it's down the street from my house (b) I saw the $59 cleaning/exam deal and (c) I needed to get back on the dentist wagon as I'd fallen seriously behind on my necessary maintenance after a particularly traumatic wisdom-tooth extraction. I didn't really have any issues with the reception staff or the dentist who did my exam, but my hygienist...OMFG. It was probably the worst experience I've ever had in ANY doctor's office EVER, and that includes a trip to a Planned Parenthood clinic in downtown LA. The woman (I believe her name was Erin) was very friendly, complimenting me profusely on my nails and my accessories and making lots of small talk, but aside from her friendliness, she was a complete and utter train-wreck. When taking my x-rays she admitted it was her "first time ever" using the new technology and proceeded to mess up literally every single shot. Another hygienist had to watch over her shoulder and guide her as she stuck large pieces of uncomfortable plastic into my mouth THE WRONG WAY. She had to retake nearly every x-ray angle due to improper camera placement and she probably exposed me to WAY more radiation than necessary in the process. She then tried to take my blood pressure (something a first-year pre-med student should know how to do) and after trying 3x (and squeezing my arm so tightly that the velcro cuff snapped open) she "couldn't get the darn machine to work!" She then sighed, "Whatever, what's your blood pressure normally? I'll just write that down." *blink blink* :-/ Good thing I wasn't nervous visiting the dentist for the first time after a long absence. OH WAIT... My exam and cleaning were both done by a nice doctor who tried pushing the more expensive laser cleaning procedure as well as a $150 toothbrush on me, both of which I declined. She also told me I had several cavities that would cost $1600 to have filled. Haaaaaa. Yeah. No. After the dentist left the awful hygienist came back in to polish my teeth, a procedure which wound up covering my entire face and sweatshirt with gunk and toothpaste as she did not position the waterpik or suction tube correctly causing me to make a complete mess on myself. She apologized for not knowing "how to get this dang water thing" to stop leaking all over me. Then, to top off the festivities, when she tried pushing the expensive toothbrush on me (which I declined AGAIN, saying $150 was a bit much to spend on a toothbrush) she whispered that "I should find myself a sugar-daddy to pay for it!" I just...I don't even... Overall, this trip to the dentist after a prolonged absence was exactly the OPPOSITE of what I needed. Perhaps my experience would've been better with a different hygienist, but as it stands I won't recommend this place to anyone, $59 deal or not. (Unless you happen to be into the kind of white-knuckle torture that comes from dealing with completely inept healthcare professionals.)
