  • OMG, it's an old, historic hotel. Of course the showers are old, the plumbing fixtures are antique, whatever. It's HISTORIC. If you want new, go stay at the freakin' Holiday Inn. This place is awesome! If you love history and character, you will love the San Carlos. If you just think old is old, you won't. I happen to love it. It's clean, it's nice, it's fun, and it has a LOT of character, which fortunately has been preserved over the years. The only thing I don't like here has nothing to do with the hotel itself. For some reason, the management has changed since I last stayed here and everyone working here now (with a few outstanding exceptions) seem to just be, well, jerks. But they will be gone soon enough, I hope. We spent the night here recently after going on one of their ghost tours, which was a hoot. We had a great time doing that, so if it's going on when you stay here, I recommend it. The hotel is supposed to be haunted, which to me just makes it all that much better. PS I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pool at this hotel...
