There are very few places that I can say that I would seriously depressed me if I found out that they closed. Haji-baba is one of those places. I lived across the street from this place when I was in college and absolutely loved it. My family would insist that we go every time they were in town. That was almost 20 years ago and now that I've moved back to Arizona 10 years ago, I'm still going.
What's even more amazing is that the same wonderful people that ran the place then, are still running it now and making the same fantastic food. While the prices have increased in almost 20 years, it's certainly not noticeable over that duration of time. The place is extremely affordable and delicious. You will not find a better hummus in the valley. The chicken salad is absolutely one of my favorite things in the world to eat after a good workout as it's a wonderful mix of salad, rice, and tasty chicken. I can honestly say that I don't think I've tried another gyro in the last 10 years since I've been going here. So while I can't say if there's one better out there, but theirs is a certainly amazing. But I will warn you that there is a pickle hidden inside of it! I wasn't expecting that the first time I tried it all those years ago but now I've gotten used to it and simply pull it out and eat it separately.
I can't post a review without at least mentioning decor. This is a very low-key, no-frills restaurant located inside a grocery store. You are going there for the food and not the atmosphere. But if you do decide to have a seat (there will probably be a wait if you go around lunch during the week), I promise you that you will get great service from this family run place. I have never had a bad experience there in 20 years!
