| - Stayed here 4 nights the week before last. Had some difficulties with my flight but arrived safely on Tuesday. The day before, I noticed a cheaper AAA rate was available, and called the hotel to ask their local reservation office to change the rate. The hotel operator was on hold a half hour and was never able to reach them, so they sent me to the national Marriott reservation line. I specifically asked to not do anything to the reservation except change the rate, which they informed me they had. When I arrived, I found that the Marriott operator cancelled my old reservation and created a new reservation, which pulled a second deposit on my card (they pull the first night's rate as a deposit). The system also decided to keep my first deposit. I was able to speak to someone and eventually get that deposit refunded, about a week later.
So much about my reservation. Marriott Platinum - not worth much here, except you do have your own check-in desk, so you don't wait in the giant check-in line. Platinum status is good for a one tier upgrade which won't be available. A suite is about 13 tiers from the City room, so if you want an upgrade, you will have to pay extra. My upgrade was about 5 tiers and the extra charge was reasonable. It's Las Vegas so expect some differences. The Internet was free for Platinum so that was a good perk, and I got a discount at the buffet. No early check-in or late check-out.
The room - remember I did get an upgrade - it was spectacular. I was in the Chelsea Tower on the 58th floor, with a balcony, and was able to see the Bellagio fountains the entire week. The bathroom could have been a little more private but the only people able to see into the room would be in the many choppers flying by. Service was iffy - but adequate. They asked for a time to come service the room, very nice to do that, but never showed at that time. They normally came by around 4pm.
Casino - this was very nice, we found some games to play and won a little money. Entertainment is available here and other places, shopping was OK. The best thing about the Cosmo is the location, it's a quick walk to the other Casinos, shopping and shows. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel and one across the street by footbridge.
Only word of caution is that if you don't plan on coming back soon, you might request to get Marriott Rewards points instead of their Identity Rewards points for your stay. I ended up with Identity Points, enough to get me a single night free (likely not an upgrade), but I lose them if I don't come back within 12 months. I don't even know if Marriott Rewards points were an option.
