Honestly, I expected better. I went on an April Saturday late afternoon / evening about 6pm.
Pluses: Fun decor; I really like British Pubs. I passed on the rooftop simply because I didn't have my shades and it was crazy bright up there. Good choices of beers on tap. My SmithWick was ice cold.
Minuses: Perhaps there were better choices on the menu, but I was Jonesing for a good Reuben. I chose that and the sweet potato fries. The fries were seasoned nicely, but they came out undercooked and somewhat crunchy in the middle. The Reuben dissapointed, in that the meat was not all that tender and tasted like the stuff you would get from a package at the grocery store deli. Plus not enough 1000 island dressing.
Also, and just as important--from the time I walk through the door, what was lacking was a sense of welcome and attention. I sat at the bar counter and the bartender made little or no effort at any conversation or chit-chat. To me, this is part of the atmosphere of a neighborhood bar. In fact she almost seemed put out that I was sitting there. There were 3 or four other waiters and waitresses standing around the bar adjacent to me talking among themselves, about things like their work schedules when they could have been attending to customers if only just to check in.
There are several other choices in Baxter Village that I will try going forward.
