First time here for New Year's Eve dinner. Sapporo's very pretty on the outside with huge torches and glass all around. The inside was attractive as well. Were greeted by two beautiful hostesses who were super-friendly and seated us immediately as we had reservations (photo). Used the Yelp check-in for the first time and got free edamame. Our server was Victoria and that was a victory for us as she turned out to be an amazing server.
Ordered two cocktails--Cucumber, Blood Orange Martini and the Canadian "something" which was similar to a Bloody Mary. I really liked my martini and my companion was just OK with his drink. He likes it with more liquor and spicier. The edamame came with tons of salt over them (the large crystal salt like on pretzels) and had to change them up. Had the skewer appetizer which had two beef, two chicken and two shrimp. The shrimp came inside a batter like an egg roll. So what's bad about batter? He he he. The chicken and beef had not been marinated before cooking so it was just a beef and chicken flavor without any backdrop of flavors. You know what I mean? Two sauces came with it; a wasabi horseradish and a peanut/tomatoey one. Both were good and the appetizers were quite generous- a nice munch with the drinks at happy hour prices.
Hubby had the lamp chops and I had the Pad Tai shrimp. But I had to send back the Pad Tai because it was just too sweet for my palate and had chicken curry noodle dish instead. The lamb chops were picture worthy so why didn't I take a photo? Nice miso glaze on them, dark on the outside as requested and pink on the inside. Yet, hubby said they lacked something. I don't think the lamb chops were marinated either so that could be the glitch that would have made them perfect. A little garlic/ginger/soy sauce/sesame oil marinade goes a long way folks. I do it all the time. The Chicken curry noodles were a little salty so I could only eat half of it. It was just an ok dish.
The star of the evening was Victoria (photo) who was probably one of the best servers we have ever had anywhere. Attentive, informative, keep waters topped, checked in to make sure everything was ok and just super personable. The environment was beautiful and that is always a good thing assuming the food meets up to the environment. You will not be wowed by the food here but you won't be disappointed either. I might try the Tepannaki next time.
