  • Three words: Don't do it. I've been looking for a good dentist and found San Tan Dental Group via Yelp. The positive reviews were a HUGE factor in my decision to choose them. So I scheduled an appointment. My initial experience was positive. The person on the phone was friendly and helpful. One of the first questions they asked was the name of my dental insurance. I mistakenly gave them the wrong info but called back about 5 minutes later with the correct info. They sent me an email with a link to an online form to complete. I was told that would speed my intake process. I answered it completely and thoroughly. On the day of my appointment I arrived at 3:45 which was 15 minutes prior to my 4pm appointment. There was only one other person in the waiting room. Despite this lack of other patients and the fact that I had completed my paperwork digitally several days in advance, I still sat for 45 minutes waiting. I was bored and pacing and noticed a group of employees shooting the breeze almost the entire time. It wasn't until later that I would realize they were the dentist, hygienist and x-ray tech. Finally I was sent back to get my x-rays. An easy process led by a very friendly tech who then led me into the dentist's office where I sat for 25 minutes waiting for the dentist. Keep in mind, I saw him in what looked like a breakroom when I was walking back to the office. He spent a few minutes looking at my teeth, told me I had a couple cavities and needed a clean. Great! Lets get going! He said the insurance person would need to come back and talk to me first. 15 minutes later, she arrived. At this point I had been there for 1 hour and 45 minutes. She proceeded to show me that it would cost nearly $800 to get my cavities repaired and get a cleaning. WTF!?!? Seriously? How can that possibly be, I've never paid for a cleaning in my life and I rarely have to pay more than $50 out of pocket for a cavity. It turns out they had all kinds of up-sell items included, which started with some $300/tooth filing that was "guaranteed for life." Plus they wanted to do some laser stuff to my gums because I had mild gingivitis and that wasn't cheap. So I asked how much to just get a basic cleaning. They told me the cheapest I could get out of there was $125. Huh? Seriously? Was this dentist office started by a group of used car salesmen? I came to get my teeth cared for, not get taken advantage of. At that point I was there for 2 hours, which I had taken off from work, so I agreed to the tooth cleaning but passed on the cavities. By the time I left there, it was dark and after 7pm. More than 3 hours I had been there and in the meantime had been ignored, left waiting and hard sold on dental services that should have been covered by my insurance. I recommend that you think very carefully on whether you can believe these other positive reviews because I got sucked in know there's just no way.
