| - I wouldn't eat lunch here if it was free. Last time it was, as it was a work-thing and paid for, but this is by far the worst place I can recall eating at in a very long time. Its right next to my office, so people suggest it from time to time. From this point on I am refusing.
Scenario. Lunch time. We have reservations, party of 8. We make it very clear that one of us (me) has a meeting in 1hr and will need to submit order and be fed first. One hour later I was frantically scraping my just arrived food into a takeaway and bailing. Thank Goodness I had someone else paying for the bill. To be fair, we all ordered sandwiches etc - things you would expect to come quickly. They, honestly, have one or two servers on at a time and they promote to the office workers lunch crowd. The servers are always hectic, and forgetting things and apologetic.. but this could all be fixed by hiring ONE more person for the lunch rush. You could fix a world of issues with 3 hours wage a day.
i had a veggie burger. A garden Vegetable patty (hate those) on a very stale white bun with the worst soggiest salad. I tossed it, it was inedible. I worked in restaurant kitchens for 8 years when I was a teen and know that particular wilti-ness is from reusing the salad tossing bowl all day without cleaning. I had to ask for Mustard etc.
I should know better, as generally I hate pub food.. but sometimes places do it right. I've never had a thing I like there except bottled Perrier. It is the same price as any other pub and the food is all pre-made poor quality. Service is AWFUL. Not at all pub-tacular like the Roy Public House or any other decent Toronto pubs.
For this neighborhood, the Bishop & Belcher is a much better choice. To be honest, "the Spotted Dick" is about as appealing as a Spotted Dick.
