  • So... how was YOUR Valentine's Day?! Ours? Oh, ya know, my husband and I were taking it easy in our suite at the Berkley-- which is NOT a resort, if you happen to have been under that impression, ya know, since that's how it's marketed-- and someone used a room key card to open our door. There was no knock and no announcement for housekeeping (which would not have made sense anyway since daily housekeeping is not available here-- it is actually a timeshare property). The only reasons the person was unable to get inside were that a) we happen to have been there and b) we happen to have had the manual interior latch engaged. Incredulous-- and having just prepared to hop in the shower-- I did not make it to the door in time to see who it was. I immediately phoned the lobby and asked why someone would be trying to enter our room with a functioning key card. The receptionist asked whether the person knocked or announced that he/she was a member of her housekeeping staff, and I informed her that the person had not knocked and had not spoken. She assured me that she would look into the issue and phone me back. Several minutes passed with no return phone call, so my husband made a trip to the lobby and spoke with the general manager, who informed him that the individual was, in fact, a member of the housekeeping staff contracted through a third party vendor and that as a result of the error she had been sent home. At the request of my husband, the GM did eventually make her way up to our room to personally apologize for the mistake, though had my husband not ventured to the lobby I have my doubts about whether anyone might have followed up with us at all. As a peace offering, she provided us with a voucher for the buffet located within the Silverton Casino, and while I explained that we appreciated the gesture, I told her it was unlikely we would spend our last night there. We didn't. We booked a room for $66 through Travelocity at the Monte Carlo. On the strip. From the moment we *attempted to* check-in, this place was a fast-talking nightmare of confusion, as we had been informed through our booking agency that check-in time was 3PM, though according to staff at the Berkley it was actually 4PM. Despite the fact that the place was visibly [alarmingly] vacant, we were forced to adhere to the 4PM check-in time AND were told that in order to retrieve the show vouchers guaranteed by our purchase of our stay, we would need to travel ELSEWHERE to the Berkley's sister property and that while we were there, we could schedule a meeting to discuss the timeshare schpiel with someone. Fortunately for my husband and me, none of the available time slots worked with our schedule since a) no one ever mentioned this aspect to us and b) we had been looking forward to this trip and had our days mapped out already. Having been awake and traveling since 1AM local time and with no feasible transportation between the properties (apart from a shuttle that ran in 2-hour intervals-- just enough of a window to be swindled into attending a previously undisclosed timeshare sales-pitch) and having already been royally screwed by a taxi driver, we opted to skip what would have been additional leg to our already miserable journey. In summary-- if it is not yet obvious-- I assure you that apart from the Berkley's beautiful room finishes, you have plenty of reasons to look elsewhere for accommodations. Stay. Away.
