  • Came to the Wynn buffet a year ago with somewhat grand expectations but left feeling like it wasn't as good as I expected. It didn't have a contemporary feel for a buffet anymore. If I had come here when they first opened, I probably would have said the same about the once great buffets of nearly two decades ago like Bally's or the Rio. This buffet along with the Bellagio buffet have been supplanted by the likes of Studio B, the Wicked Spoon, and Bacchanal. Each of these buffets seem to be laid out better, more spacious and spread out in the design of their stations. The offerings are more contemporary and compartmentalized; instead of a whole chaffing dish full of food beckoning you to take as much as you like, the portions are more individualized and the emphasis is on making each serving more presentable. The Wynn Buffet seems to be caught between something old and traditional and this new modern paradigm for Vegas buffets... I noticed there wasn't as much variety in the selection, perhaps the emphasis is on quality. What I've found was a more classic or traditional sensibility in the offerings: When was the last time you've seen Oysters Rockefeller offered at a buffet? http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-buffet-las-vegas-6?select=sAiS6XgpbW_t-x46uHVAeg#sAiS6XgpbW_t-x46uHVAeg I wouldn't expect too many millennials to know what that is. With that kind of thinking, I would suspect that they're trying to appeal to an older crowd but I would also think that the older crowd wouldn't dine too often on the strip at $40 a pop, stereotypically they would probably go downtown... The theme when we were there was sort of whimsical, fairy tale like but elegant judging from the decorations http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-buffet-las-vegas-6?select=Y-SG3-x0ICi64J2U2L8-Jg#_RZaiGeObU6AAfSf51A_KA. I was impressed at the work of their cake designer however as some of her works were displayed prominently near the desserts http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-buffet-las-vegas-6?select=Y-SG3-x0ICi64J2U2L8-Jg#pO5dftYkluegExuzAoA_PQ. The Wynn does a good job with the desserts though as everyone in our group seemed to agree with that. Nothing much stands out, I could have eaten prime rib http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-buffet-las-vegas-6?select=Y-SG3-x0ICi64J2U2L8-Jg#Y-SG3-x0ICi64J2U2L8-Jg and mashed potatoes all night trying to recoup my $40 but that's not a very impressive strategy since you could get that at any decent buffet in LV... It's been a year but I haven't heard anything new or different that would make me want to go back, especially with so many other newer, more exciting choices...
