| - My career choice and my love of the outdoors has me spending a lot of time out in the sun. While I am good at staying covered and using sunscreen, I had a few spots I wanted to have looked at and figured I might as well schedule a full body check while I was there. I made an appointment here without any sort of recommendation (it was covered by my insurance, close to work/home, had a modern website listing services etc.). They scheduled me with Dr. Roenigk. I think my wait was longer than it took to give me a full look (I was out of the office in about an hour including the wait which itself was at least 40 minand the excision). I have had more thorough derm exams in the past.
Before I knew it he found a spot he was concerned with and he was numbing me up and excising the spot. It was all happening so rapidly, he payed no mind that I have a latex allergy and used latex gloves while examining and removing the spot. He then quickly applied sutures. I am also suture reactive and can only use certain sutures. Naively figured he would use something that was neutral and even if he didn't I figured I would take my chances with just 3 stitches.
Long story short after 2 weeks the spot didn't close with the stitches. While the site itself didn't get infected, per say, it remained irritated, red, swollen and didn't close and in fact the day before I was to have my sutures removed they came undone and the unhealed wound just opened up.
I went in had them remove what was left of the sutures. When I did both the P.A. and the nurse had no non-latex gloves. When I told them I was allergic they both went to work without gloves. I was completely pissed and disgusted at this point and told the nurse to patch me up and let me leave.
With 2 more spots I am looking at getting removed, for cosmetic reasons, I will be seeking another dermatologist as well as another clinic to have this done. The while I can not speak to the other dermatologists associated with AAD, I know and I was not pleased with the service and care I received by Dr. Roenigk, or the P.A. and nurse on the day I had my sutures removed.
