| - My experience when visiting Southwest Medical's facility was unfortunate. I visited their urgent care department earlier this week (12.04.'16) with a sports injury to my upper arms - especially my right side. Upon arrival I told them I sought a generic referral for a physical therapy facility of my choice (various facilities book out anywhere from 1 - 6 weeks in advance). I was seen by a P.A. that was informative & friendly. I repeated my needs, was treated, and left with my paperwork. When I arrived at a nearby P.T. facility to schedule treatment, they told me I didn't have a prescription for a P.T. facility and the diagnosis indicated (incorrectly) described my problem as being on my right side (disallowing them to work on my left). I called the urgent care to tell them:
!. I didn't have the prescription I'd requested.
2. It was my LEFT side that the prescription needed to describe.
The clerical I spoke with told me it'd be cleared up and I'd get a call back that day. When I didn't hear back I called the next day and spoke to the same clerical (who remembered me and my call the day before. That was commendable, but for my purposes, at the time, zero benefit. I had to explain to her THREE TIMES the 2 above points that were of concern to me (the same points that she & I had discussed and agreed on less than 20 hours earlier!?
Apparently, this person was told that any criticism or mistake committed by the facility and pointed out by a patient should be met with deflection, denial, or obfuscation (as I encountered). On a scale of 1 - 10, as regards medical malpractice, this barely registers a 1. It does, however, speak of an attitude that can put your health at risk in more complex situations. Just be careful. Be involved, do your diligence, ask questions, etc...
