As Chinatown east slowly starts its revitalization, Wong's Ice Cream is one of the newer shops whose big orange sign catches your eye but not enticing enough for you to walk in. However, after hearing they were no regular ice cream shop, this is a stop you definitely need to make.
Wong's has a unique selection of Asian inspired ice cream flavours. In addition, they sell chip flavours that are difficult to come by, ube pie, and pre-packaged ice cream to bring home.
One of my favourite and go to flavours is the salted duck egg with black sesame. I'm also a huge fan of the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It's not as good as Kekou's, but still very delicious and it's like as you were drinking the coffee.
If you ask for a cup (I'm a cup over cone) person, you'll have it served in a Chinese takeout box. It's a pretty cute form of packaging and really feels like you get more ice cream than you expect.
I haven't gotten a chance to try the ube ice cream because it's always sold out but I guess that's how good and popular it is.
It's exciting to see east Chinatown become lively with great places to visit. Keep doing what you're doing, Wong's!
