  • While my purchasing experience was good, I recently had an unpleasant experience with the service department. After 2 days holding my car and not having anything done except for reading the error codes (which I did myself in 5 minutes), I demanded that I pick up my car because there are things I can do with my CUV that I can't in a loaner 3 series sedan--and the problem wasn't urgent. Although they were not happy with my decision, they grudgingly said they would get my car ready. Low and behold, I go to pick up my car, sit in the driver's seat and stare at a new 15" long crack in the windshield!!! This is a 2015 X1 and I baby this car! Luckily, I did not even drive this car from the lot and called the service manager to come take a look. He tells me to call in the morning. Long story short... The service advisor that I dealt with denies any responsibility on behalf of the dealership. Then I talk to the service manager who also denies responsibility. All the while, I am treated by these two on the phone like some sort of criminal who is trying to scam them. They conjecture that there was a crack there previously or that a pre-existing crack extended itself. The fact remains that there was no crack in the windshield when I dropped the car off and a 15" crack is present when I pick the car up. Finally, the service manager does agree to have the windshield replaced. Am I happy? No, I'd rather have my un-cracked original BMW windshield rather than a non-OEM replacement that seems to make excessive noise on the highway. No, I'd rather have been treated like a valueable customer than a shady scam artist. In the end, you decide where you buy your vehicle and where you take your vehicle for servicing. Although BMW tries to limit any competition for their cars by region, you still have a choice. Choose wisely!
