| - Price was reason I selected grey line for south rim tour.
Other option was car rental which is what I'd do in future.
Pick up feom hotel was at least 15 minutes late. Taken to their main hub 10 minutes away without any explanation as to why. Herded off bus and into building to 'check in' after sales pitch for helicopter, pink Jeep and imax. Didn't we check in with first bus driver?
Herded back on to differwnt bus like cattle - no consideration for individual needs in seating (asked to be first on next bus so could sit up front due to car sickness and was told we would go to back of the line with no guarantee.) got on bus and was required to sit in seat not by my kids since there were 3 of us and paired with another single, but I refused.
Didn't make stop at Hoover dam because 'we'll go on way back since so much traffic.' Never did. Another reason I chose grey lines.
Seems they have some vested interest in a particular gas station/convenience store because although it was overflowing with other buses, that's where we stopped on way to/from Grand Canyon. 4 women bathroom stalls- 2 cashiers - 8 buses of 100 people each.
I know grey lines can't help traffic, but honesty when booking would have been appreciated--'this is busiest time of year to go to Grand Canyon' we were told once en route--so WE could have made choice to still take tour or not. Once got on bus, we're told we'd get back to hotel about 10p - advertisement was misleading because we were prepared for about 8pm. This wasn't even because of traffic.
Rushed to see movie, to eat- whole day felt so rushed.
Oh- they play movies on the bus- if you have children under 13, they're not appropriate- language, sex.
And then there's a recording about tipping the driver 'for those not from the us to understand what's customary.' As if that wasn't enough, the driver stood at the door of the bus collecting tips as we got back on at our last stop. Sorry, but at $70+ a person, I'm sure the drivers are getting paid well. I don't like being asked/expected to tip.
The Grand Canyon is wonderful- but I would have enjoyed the day and spent the same/less $ on a car rental.
Ps- we had to switch to an identical bus at 10pm because the first driver can't drive more than 10 hours/day. Why didn't 1 bus driver instead of 100 passengers get off original bus?? So yet another delay. We are finishing 16 hours on this 'tour' and still not back to our hotel!
