I went in here in mid-June looking for a type of small palm, that wouldn't get too big for my particular plating location. After discussion with an employee & looking around, I ended up going with a Purple Leaf Plum, based partly on the employees recommendation. I came back 2 weeks later and purchased a 15 gallon size. They recommended some of their mulch & I bought 2 bags. They told me the watering schedule. I've planted, and transplanted trees before. After a few weeks the leaves were drying up & falling off. I call them up, they recommend coming in and buying some Moon juice to aid with transplant shock.
I go in, and I show the person at the counter pictures & explain what's going on. He asked if they planted it or me. I said I did. He said if they would've planted it, it would have had a guarantee. I asked how much would they have charged me to plant the tree. He says $200. I laugh. I said you want me to pay twice the price of the tree (it cost $99) to have it planted in order for you to guarantee. Then he asked if I bought their starter kit. I said no one mentioned a starter kit, just mulch. He said the best he could do is offer me a replacement at 50% off. Of course it wouldn't be guaranteed unless I paid $200 to have them plant it.
I go home and almost every day after the sun went down I sprayed water mist on the whole tree. Within a few weeks small leaves starting coming back. But they never got more than 1/2 inc in length. A few weeks after that they slowly started to get heat stress again and the leaves are now withered & dry once again.
My gut tells me this is the sort of tree that should NEVER be planted the summer. For a company that's supposed to be a tree nursery, why would you even suggest someone buy a delicate tree like this to plant in the summer? I'll try to nurse it back to health again. Fingers crossed. But I'm never going back to Moon Nursery.
