| - Tonight's performance of 'The Lion King' proves once again the value of Overture Center as a venue to watch top notch productions and just how well Disney has crafted this latest iteration of the show.
Tonight's opening night performance was dead on! Pay attention though! Disney has added sly little up-dates that if you're not focused, you'll be sitting there wondering why those around you are laughing and you're not. The choreography, the costumes, the singing (Nia Holloway as adult Nala blew me away!), and the music, are just amazing. In true Disney fashion, there is just the right amount of drama and humor to keep everyone entertained. The 5 year old in the family sitting next to me was as riveted to the production as his parents were. My heart-strings were totally pulled in the second act, when Rafiki shows Simba who he is and where his father is. When I'm stirred such that I get goosebumps during a performance, I know it's great but that scene gave me goose-mountains! (Getting the smaller goosebumps just writing this!) I would HIGHLY recommend that you go see this latest production!
As for the venue itself, Overture makes Madison proud. Tonight was a sold out performance, and our seats were in the very upper balcony, but they proved that there are really no bad seats in the place. For much of tonight's show, sitting higher was actually an asset! The accoustics and the sound system make it easy to hear everything and have it sound great. I could even hear someone's cell phone start ringing and reverberate throughout the place in the second act (C'mon people! Really?!?!) the accoustics are so good.
We Madisonians are blessed to have an edifice of the quality that is Overture Center and doubly so, when we have productions as good as this latest version of 'The Lion King'!
Go see this show! Even if only the rafter seats are available, you will not be disappointed!
