- So, if there is one thing I dislike most, it is feeling like an establishment is just needlessly robbing people.
This gas station convenience store doesn't accept credit cards. They only accept Visa Debt Cards and cash. I understand that some companies don't like the cost of doing business with Visa, and that is definitely their choice. However, this company charges a .35 fee when you use your debit card. They will tell you that the fee is to off-set the .35 fee they are charged from Visa for each transaction using your Visa Debit Card.
Someone definitely isn't being truthful - here is what Visa says:
"Report any merchant violations... 1. The merchant added a checkout fee, or payment card surcharge, to your purchase for using your Visa Debit card."
According to Visa, merchants are in violation of their merchant agreement if they pass along any surcharge when you use your Visa Debit card. Visa also reports that they do not charge merchants for Visa Debit transactions only Visa credit card transactions. Is that maybe why this company doesn't accept credit cards but will pass along a fee to debit card users? - It appears to me that they could stand to make a lot of money at .35 a person on every debit transaction.
Not cool!
