The only place you can find pollo a la brasa in the Phx metro area!
45 friggin mins I waited for the Peruvian rotisserie chicken AKA pollo a la brasa. What started out as it will be availabile in 10 minutes when we arrived..well that was a lie. What ever happened to underpromise and overdeliver! Our server was nice enough to hook us up with two styrofoam cups of complimentary chicha morada for the long wait.
We also had the Flan and the Lomo Saltado to start when we ordered. The flan was a perfectly cooked, creamy and smooth, with a soft silky texture. Peruvian is mos def my favorite style of flan as well. So they make a really good flan well whoop dee doo dah but that wasn't why we came to Tumi! Now the Lomo Saltado is hard to mess up since it is such a popular chifa dish. But even the lean sirloin strips were a little overdone but the flavors were all there.
But I came here primarily for the chicken! Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the chicken.....sadly by the time we finished the Lomo Saltado and the flan. The chicken was still not ready so when it finally arrived we had it to go.
It was great 7 hours later when we had it at least. Perfect blend of spices and perfectly moist and exactly what I wanted. The aji and chimichurri are always great and they gave us extra as well. Perfect accompaniment to dip in.
I will say that the parking situation is not that great here because it is located inside a strip mall there's only four dedicated parking spots reserved for customers that eat at Tumi. Given the "parking wars" that take place amongst the businesses at this strip mall I don't see how this business is NOT leaving money on the table when there is no parking on certain days. And it wasn't even packed when we walked inside the dining area. I had flashbacks of how LA strip mall parking is a challenge just like on this particular day. At least in LA..they valet parking....here we parked across the street diagonally where the Boston Market is. Minimal risk of getting towed if you park there. But we had no choice.
5 stars for the chicken ONLY. 3.5 stars overall for a first time dine in experience I'm not interested in dining inside here again. But don't hesitate to get the pollo a la brasa to go and definitely call ahead in case they run out!
