| - This review is going to take on multiple subjects but the star rating is for the theater alone. I should state that I have been to screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at other venues.
First the venue.
I was disappointed in the theater, it is small but could be so much more. The doors were supposed to open at 9 pm, they did not. Fortunately the temps were mild and the way to enter was not uncomfortable. The security is a joke, I had forgotten my Leatherman multi tool on my belt and had my keys in my pocket on the same side. Either he ignored his metal detector wand, it doesn't work, he didn't know what he is doing, or combination of these things as I entered the theater without even so much as mention of a positive hit. Drinks are very pricey; $7 for drinks from the tap, $6 for cans. The show was supposed to start at 10:00 pm, it did not, it was close to 40 minutes late in starting for several reasons that included the pre show starring late because of the house and the "actors" gabbing on.
Second, the pre show burlesque act.
A group calling themselves "Gone Rogue Burlesque". The group consisted of overweight women dancing and strong to their underwear on stage. While I applaud these ladies for heading confidence enough in their bodies to bare flesh to the audience it was not for me. They started the act late due to what I will call difficulties with the house.
Last but not least, the actors, a group calling themselves "Velvet Darkness". These were the "actors" hired to recreate the movie (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) live while the movie played on screen. An "actor" came on stage to tell the audience the "rules". These include no throwing of any items. This is part of the audience participation for the movie. No open flames, understandable due to the age of the theater. No throwing up or you will be made to clean it up or sit in it, I can only assume someone has thrown up during their performance. No touching of the"actors"when they are amongst the audience but expect to be touched by them. To this I say you touch me or my wife and you will be touched back and not in a pleasant way! This same performer, babbled about a personal story of suicide. I don't wish to sound insensitive but we all have our own problems to deal with, some worse than others, I was there to be entertained not depressed. The individual narrating the show talked on and on making the actual movie hard to hear. He tried to interject what I can only assume he thought was funny, neither my wife nor myself found this to be the case. We were so turned off by the performers, particularly the narrator's babbling, that we left early.
Make up your own mind about this venue, but we probably will not be returning.
