| - If you have read my review of "Smart Style" then you will see I was in desperate need, over a Holiday weekend no less, of someone who can correct my terrible haircut. And I was on a deadline. My work was doing some promotional pictures and my hair had to get done and my usual girl was out of town.
Here's what I needed: Someone to FIX my current, Umpa-Loompa style cut, and highlights. After reading the reviews, conversing with TWO friends who had used the services offered at Penrose, and realizing I could easily pay $240 without any guarantee of having my already established disaster, corrected. I bit the bullet. Made an appointment. For myself and my mother.
Yelp helped me manage my expectations, which is vital when you are in my situation. My hair cut was already a disaster, so I was cautiously optimistic. I was seen immediately to my chair (which is nice), offered beverages and a magazine, and then the consulting began. We established a game plan, along with two instructors, and then I was informed that cuts were $5, and color was 50% off, and product was 25% off and it was at that point I wanted the "Whole Enchilada" so to speak. I opted for Highlights AND Lowlights and the journey began. The entire highlight/lowlight and cut took a full FOUR Hours. Having done this previously, this was about an hour more than what a "pro" salon would take. But I felt like a "special" case because we really had to dig down deep and evaluate (repeatedly) how to fix the disaster cut. As I previously stated, I had two instructors helping. A lot of cross checking went on, and I know for a fact that in all of my years of spending oodles and oodles of dollars at salons that NO ONE has ever cross checked their cut as thoroughly as these girls. EVER. And because of this, WE were able to ensure the cut was right, ensure the color was perfect. And I left, albeit, tired.. A pretty happy camper.
All in all, highlights, lowlights, cut, dry, and four bottles of Bumble & Bumble it cost $104.08. That's a screaming good deal in my opinion.
See Krista, she has experience with highlights and lowlights and it shows. Manage your expectations accordingly (it's not a "salon" rather, a "salon in training") and you should be really pleased.
