| - It looked like there was some seating upstairs but we were seated in the bar area which was pretty loud even on a Tuesday night owing to all of the hard surfaces in the room.
Sitting in a noisy bar had two effects on my experience: it made me want to pay pub prices for the food and it made me expect really good drinks.
The food was pretty good overall, but some things were better than others. The seared tuna and short rib were excellent, the sweet potato gnocchi good, and the brussels sprouts and prosciutto crostini were just OK. The sprouts were soggy rather than crispy roasted and the crostini had way too much balsamic on them. The brownie and ice cream dessert may have been the highlight of the meal.
$65 for those 6 dishes would have been reasonable and probably 4 starts from me, but factoring in the $30+ we spent on 3 mediocre cocktails drove the rating down. The cocktail menu looked good on paper so we passed up the $15/bottle Tuesday night wine special. That was a mistake. I had the "Hot Blooded" which was supposed to be a Bulleit Bourbon based cocktail, but I could hardly taste it. It was also served in a highball glass loaded to the top with ice, so I had to drink it quickly before the ice melted and diluted the drink even more. Not worth $12. When one of the hostesses came by to bus our dishes, she said how much she liked the drink, and I said it could use more bourbon. Rather than taking this as constructive criticism, she said, "Oh, there's plenty of bourbon in there." I beg to differ.
The service was hit and miss. Our server (didn't catch her name) was great and very enthusiastic. Someone from the kitchen ran the food out and had the annoying tendency of letting go of the plates rather than setting them down. He was also inattentive to where on the table he was setting the plates, so it had the effect of slamming the plates down anywhere he could find a place.
Not sure the bar is good enough or the food consistent enough to warrant another visit to try more of the menu.
