| - To be honest, I was getting more than a little peeved with my previous mechanic (inconsistent estimates and recommendations, being extremely pushy, and giving me an attitude when I said I didn't have the money for a $500+ repair) and decided it was a time for the change. Though 3A Auto Repair only has 17 reviews on Yelp, they have about 140 five star reviews on Google - by a long shot, the absolute most reviews I've seen for a mechanic anywhere, and that's not even counting the fact that they were all rave reviews. So we took the 20 mile drive (yup) to check this place out.
We called in to make an appointment the day before, dropped the car off first thing in the morning, letting them know we'd be back after work to pick the car up. I wasn't expecting a call til mid-afternoon but a little less than two hours later, they called back to tell us exactly what was wrong with the car (it was a cracked axle which our last place was telling us needed to be changed "immediately"), if anything needed immediate attention, gave us a good estimate on how long we could push off the repair (another 6 months), and gave us a good quote. We got the axle replaced, got an oil change on top of that (it was just about due), and they even threw in a free car wash. The price they quoted on the phone was about 40 bucks more expensive than what we ended up paying and when we checked the invoice, realized that they threw in a 10% discount on labor, which was much appreciated, especially with this repair putting a pretty big hole in our pocket.
In a nutshell, what I love about this place is that they are very upfront and transparent about what's going on with your car - something that should be expected of every mechanic, but unfortunately for most others, earning your money often gets in the way of this. They also have a Keurig so you can grab a freshly brewed cup of coffee as you wait, or as you drop-off/pick-up your car. My only complaint is that they are only open on weekdays from 7-5 and are a little out of the way for me - but I'd say they're worth the drive.
