| - Man am I sick of places that are relentless about upselling and cross-selling you on everything. Serious, just back up off me.
I popped in here for a quick smog check 20minutes before closing. For this, I am grateful for the service offered. With a Yelp check-in, it's a mere $7.77, probably the least expensive around. Totes affordable! Done in 5-10minutes.
As I'm led back to my car, though, I'm given the carefully orchestrated air-filter demo. What is that, you ask? One mechanic is saying, "well, we found some things," and no joke, right as he mentions your filthy air filter, another mechanic staged by the hood of the air gives your filter a dramatic drop to the floor. Some dust poofs out. Where's the stage lighting, am I supposed to applaud??
I reject the cross-sale. You go in for a mere smog test, yet then must navigate the maze of minor to major issues they will gladly inform you about unsolicited. I can't stand that crap.
There will always be dust in your filter. Know the basics about your vehicle. My filter is otherwise pristine white, as gleaming as my untanned hide. I'm then told my wiper has a rip in it. And that I'm due for an oil change. And that it would be good to bring it in for a 30k mile tune-up, and here's a $200+ estimate for all of that. There was probably more, but my eyes started to glaze over the moment my wiper blade was mentioned, like I even care about that living in the gd desert. Cross-selling always makes me suspicious of intent and professionalism.
Anyway, Purrfect is a fine and fast deal for your minor mandatory inspections, but I wouldn't go here for anything else.
