  • I so wanted to like Big Al's Diner, but our breakfast was completely disappointing. (I will say, however, that other reviewers' comments about lack of cleanliness and unfriendly servers were unfounded.) The large portion of "famous" corned beef hash (with over-easy eggs) was undistinguished: quite bland, under-seasoned. Its diced potatoes should have been browned first, to enhance texture and taste. How difficult is it, also, to serve hot, completely buttered, crunchy toast on the side? Finally, the one thing that a diner MUST deliver is a good cup of coffee, and Big Al's Diner failed miserably -- probably a combination of low-quality beans brewed in a coffee maker in need of thorough cleaning. I wish I had more positives to report...
