I AM ON A HAPPY ISLAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STRIP DISTRICT!
Hi My Loves!
I came here after a stellar photo shoot in the strip one weekend this summer. It was a hot sunny day, great for photos and the fates were on my side! I did some superb rust shots of a train bridge ( shameless self promotion - check out my blog for the "Rusty Love" photo from the shoot).
I was warm after and THANK YOU FELLOW YELP WRITERS, I realized I was mere blocks from Maggie's for something to cool off with! I'm calling this summer, "2015: The Summer of Rum" or I've really enjoyed drinking my way through town when I get the chance!
So, probably a tiny biological mistake to start drinking on an empty tummy but man the drinks were incredible. I had Rockaway Beach (take on a classic Manhattan) so perfect! Followed by The Painkiller which was tropical and girly with pineapple, orange juice, rum and coconut cream - I could have had 20! Then I did a rum tasting...The Queen's Share, which I don't even think you can get a bottle of anymore, was to die for. If I can remember correctly it was aged in old Wigle barrels = DIVINE!
The bartender was willing to share homemade drink recipes and she even had a "RUM PGH" t shirt. Freaking Hip...putting me - uptown girl Christie Brinkley 20+ pounds heavy - to shame! ;)
I was toasted and bought a bunch of product and have been recreating the drinks at home.
I will totally go back with ANYONE - LITERALLY ANYONE - that asks!
*The Key: Creative people making creative recipes and reinventing old standards! This is creativity at its finest. Not to mention Pittsburgh is blossoming into an incredible food and drink destination.
Love you...you booze hound!
