| - This was our first time at the Peculiar Rabbit, as we are new to CLT and trying out as many places as we can to find some regular go-to spots. I was excited to try this due to reviews I read, and its proximity to Legion Brewing and Plaza Midwood.
We arrived for our reservation and were promptly seated. The server was very attentive and prompt in getting our drinks, and in checking in on us through the meal. My low rating is due to food quality and value. Our server did what she could, and management was attentive and apologetic as well.
I ordered the paella, my husband the wagyu burger, cooked medium. The food came out within 15-20 minutes, hot. The paella was about 10 parts risotto to 1 part proteins (chicken, shrimp and salmon). The dish was well seasoned and tasty, but would have been better with more veggies... or, waaaaaay less risotto.
The wagyu burger was overcooked, and dry, which was sad given the price point and type of meat. Our server promptly addressed this and offered a replacement. No harm, no foul. Unfortunately, the second burger came out just as overcooked as the first. The meat was tasty, but dry and unappealing.
Both the server and manager were more than accomodating, apologetic for the quality of food. The matter was handled appropriately, but I was disappointed at the experience. We may go back, but it will be awhile.
I have yet to find somewhere that is a go-to mid-tier priced joint to get reliably good food, have a good beer list, etc. Pro-tip: If you want a slammn' burger, head up the street to Moo and Brew.
