  • I'm torn. I don't like homemade cheese-ball kinda places, and this is just that kind of place. But I must admit it's also kind of fun. I found out about Purple Planet thru a HalfOffDepot offer a few months ago. A small group of former coworkers and I get together every quarter and it was that time once again (plus it was my birthday!), so I thought why not give this place a shot--something a tad different...something fun for everyone. Everyone agreed and at 4:00 Saturday we all converged on this old mill-come-mini golf and haunted house for nine holes of "3D" fun. I have mixed feelings about this place, so let me break it down this way. THE GOOD: + Good little spot to take the family/kids for an inexpensive "together-time" experience. Cheaper than taking them to the movies & you're interacting with one another rather than just sitting there vegging out on candy. + They have birthday party specials. I would personally recommend this place for the youngest kid parties...those over 8-10 or so probably won't be very impressed (I don't have kids though, so I'm not necessarily the best barometer for this!). :) + Easy to get to. I-85 exit 26 (Belmont Abby) / right at the exit light / right onto Wilkinson (hwy 74), two lights down / ahead on the right about a quarter mile in an old mill. + Small game & party room adjacent to the course. Not very modern by an means, but gives the little "something for everyone" appeal. THE NOT-SO-GOOD: -- Not the easiest place to find + horrible parking. Instead of looking for a mini golf joint, look for the haunted mill/house with some sort of "haunted creature" hanging outside. There is a very small sign out front by the road that says "mini golf now open" but it's not that obvious. There are a few parking spaces in front (but it's hard to back out since you basically have to back out on to Franklin Blvd), and addt'l parking is on the side, but it verrrry "unofficial" looking, and the side of the bldg looks abandoned. That's where I parked my car and admittedly it was fine. -- In NO way WHATSOEVER a professionally designed course. Your ball will go in all different directions. This is in part to the 'crustiness' of the glow-in-the-dark paint. -- SUPER CHEESY "space theme" décor. Walls of cheap particle board painted black, flecked/splattered with that same glow paint. Party City alien dolls placed throughout (eyes painted with that same damn glow paint). -- The year-round haunted house/mill only takes maybe five to seven mins to go thru. My friend & her husband went thru with their kid & were back out almost as soon as they went in. I will say they thought it was scary though, so... -- Fairly bad selection of putters--most of them are kiddie size (and this is coming from a short guy!). -- HOT once you're past the front entrance. Starts out pretty cool but gets warmer the further back you go. -- Bathroom is GROSS (pic attch'd). The men's room has no real DOOR, only a short curtain. Why? And they're way back in the back of the bldg, with the appearance of an "easily raped or murdered" area since it's unattended & looks to be rarely used by anyone. I am happy to see they have updated their website to reflect ACTUAL photos of the place instead of what I assume was stock imagery. When we all originally looked at this place online it had pics of a MUCH more, how do I say, "upscale" establishment. This is one reason we were all so shocked at the appearance of the place when we arrived. Note that the glow paint has worn away & faded a bit now so it isn't as 'bright' as it appears on their site.
