  • Ever had the best and worst day of your life all at one time? Well, Beads Galore International in Phoenix, AZ did it to me. Here's my story, read and be buyer aware. I went to them specifically looking for plastic 3mm beads and 3x6mm oats in matching colors. When I first asked one of the owners (there are two brothers running the place, one knows beads and the other does the pricing) he laughed at me and said, "We don't carry that junk, we only carry good stuff." Nice way to talk to a new customer eh? But I was determined so I spent an hour scouring the store hoping I'd find something I could 'make do' with since they didn't carry 'the junk' I really needed. Eventually the same guy comes over and says, "Exactly what are you looking for and how is it going to be used?" So I tell him and he suddenly remembers he has about a half dozen boxes of 'plastic crap' in the back they'd gotten during a buy out and he says if I want to go thru the boxes I might find some of what I need and he'd give me a deal just to get it out of the stock room. Well as a beader I was more than happy to crawl thru boxes of beads and off I went. As I was starting the other brother, the pricer, came in to tlk about what I was looking for and made me a deal on prices so they could get as much of the'plastic crap' out of the store as they could. He didn't believe I would find what I needed, but if it was in those boxes they were happy to have it gone. I actually found a whole huge wad of the 3x6 oats in black while we were talking and he said, "Oh yeah, that stuff, we don't carry that stuff so you can have every bundle you find for $10 but what I'd like for you to do is find everything you want and come back on Monday so I can get it all into inventory. Is that ok with you?". I thought that was great and as I had already found the black oats I had high hopes I'd find the other stuff I needed too. He was on his way out for the day but said his brother would keep everything together for him and I'd just come back on Monday to buy. For over an hour I went thru all their old cardboard boxes (Filthy work but I was happy as a clam because I found EVERYTHING! EVERY SINGLE BEAD AND OAT IN EVERY COLOR PLUS ONE I HADN'T THOUGHT ABOUT BUT WAS THINKING ABOUT SOON AS I SAW THE COLOR!) I had found and separated out the 6 things I needed from 5 boxes of millions of beads when the brother comes into the stock room, wish I knew his name (big man and totally tactless) and informs me that oh no, these aren't plastic beads these are glass and they can't sell these THAT cheap. Now remember that half of the beads on that table were oat beads. They don't "...carry oat beads cause they're a bunch of junk". Soon as he saw all the oat beads and the matching 3mm beads I had found he got real excited and suddenly they aren't plastic anymore they're glass. Wow, a metamorphosis, and I must have blinked because I missed it. So this guy is telling me they're all glass beads, including the ones his brother had already deemed plastic and given me a price of $10 for the whole wad. Now this brother says they're glass and $10 a strand. I don't think I've ever come off a high so fast in all my life. I tried to reason with him, told him I KNEW FOR A FACT THEY WERE PLASTIC AND HIS BROTHER HAD ALREADY MADE ME A DEAL! He just said, "He's not here and doesn't know what he's talking about, these are glass and I can get $10 per stand for them." Those oats he so abhorred and called junk were suddenly worth something because I did all the work to find and sort them. So I did all the work for them and if you need 3mm round or 3x6 oat beads in white, black, pearl, or crystal they got em, but your gonna be disappointed when you pay $10 a strand for those glass beads cause their PLASTIC! I will never go back to these people, I've never been treated so poorly. I will also be contacting Angie's list and the BBB about their 'business practices', as well as placing this review in every beader site I can find. BEADS GALORE INTERNATIONAL IN PHOENIX, AZ IS BAD BUSINESS.
