  • I'd never been to a Grouchy John's before coming to this location, but I'd always heard good things about it so I went to give it a try. This location is right across the street from CSN and has a convenient drive thru. There's plenty of tables and seats for people to chill or study, plus they also provide free wifi. The atmosphere is pretty cool, lots of art on the walls, people on their laptops, studying, etc. Their menu is really neat and some of the drinks have star wars themed names. There's plenty of interesting combinations such as white chocolate + amaretto (Grouchy John), matcha + cherry (Shirley Temple of Doom), cookie butter + dark chocolate (Chewbacca), and the list goes on. I ordered an Iced Mint Mocha from the list of specialties on the menu. The drink is a combination of chocolate, peppermint, coffee, and milk. Unfortunately, it tasted like a sickly sweet and syrupy mess. It was way too sweet to drink. I brought it back to the lady at behind the counter and told her it was too sweet and I couldn't taste any mint or coffee in it. She apologized for the mishap and kindly offered to redo the order. I received a new Mint Mocha. I mixed it thoroughly, took a sip, and... it tasted the same as the first one. I think it got made exactly the same way. It barely had any hint of mint and still tasted like there was no coffee in it. I had to leave so I took it home, even tried to salvage it by toning down the sweetness with milk, but it was still incredibly syrupy and sweet so I ended up just dumping it altogether. I don't think I ordered anything too complicated, but I do feel a little gypped having paid ~$5 for a 20 oz. drink that I couldn't even enjoy. I'm a bit tentative about ever coming back here. If I do, I might stay away from all of the specialties and stick with a plain coffee.
