| - I used to LOVE the Stampede. Practically counting the days, hours, and minutes until the centennial celebration this year, I have to admit I was pretty disappointed when I checked out the grounds. I don't know if it's just me getting older, but I'm starting to really feel "over" the Stampede. I can see that to an out-of-towner, it's a great big party, but to someone who has lived in Calgary for 15+ years and has been to many a Stampede in her lifetime, it's not really anything new. I was surprised that the lines were minimal, although it could have been the day/time that we went. I wasn't too excited about anything this year, other than a couple of crazy deep fried food items, and only one (jalapeno corndog) was as good as I'd hoped. Everything is just too expensive, too many people, and too much plaid. We checked out Nashville North but it was the same as it was last year - just as smelly, just as overpriced, and totally boring if you're not wasted. I only went on ONE ride, I used to love them as a kid, but now all I think about is how unsafe it looks and feels haha. I'm not all that sad to say my Stampede lovin' days are over...might check it out in a few years but for now, I'd prefer to skip town for 10 days.
