| - My mother is Korean, and this may come as a bit of a shock to those with Korean mothers, but mine is picky. My mother wants kimchi jjigae at least once a week and since the time she has "retired" from the kitchen, we have been on a hunt to find the best jjigae in Las Vegas. Our search ended at Island Style.
This wonderful little mom and pop restaurant is owned by a nice couple that welcome customers in such a warm and kind way, that I truly feel as if they are happy to see us. We are treated well from the time we walk into the door and are greeted, until we leave and they thank us for coming.
My mother and I almost always order the super yummy kimchi jjigae; however, we have veered from our usual and have had the naengmyeon, which is also delicious. We love that Island Style makes their own kimchi and, although it is not advertised, it is available for purchase in various sizes. I am unsure of the exact sizes as my mother brings in her own jar and asks them to fill it up.
Another standout, in my opinion, is the duk mandu guk, which is small pieces of rice cake in a clear broth with mandu and egg. And, although I have not had any items from the Chinese or Hawaiian portion of the menu, I see other diners order from that portion of the menu and that food looks yummy as well.
The food is consistently good and the service is excellent!
Enjoy... the kimchi jjigae!
