I attended an event last night that was held in the Winter Club's banquet and conference rooms. The views of downtown Calgary and the mountains are beautiful. Would I recommend this venue for any other reason? No.
There is a small stage in the dining area which needs to be moved. At least four tables have virtually no line of sight because a wall is in the way. Not being able to see what is going on is ridiculous. There was no appropriate stage lighting so it hindered your ability to properly see the speakers. It looked like there was a spotlight but it wasn't used and maybe the bulb was burned out. Either way, I think the entire awards part of the gala appeared extremely unprofessional as a result of these issues.
We were served a fairly dry salad that could have used more dressing. Many of the main course items were either overdone or underdone, such as the potatoes and vegetables. One woman at my table sent her meal back because she thought the chicken was undercooked. Oh yeah, and they only served white buns. Who does that anymore? And even if they're okay with it, maybe serve some whole wheat along with that or something else that is slightly healthier. The dining experience overall was quite disappointing and for a place that has a prestigious reputation, this was a shock.
I overpaid for this experience, that's for sure.
