| - I went to breakfast at Smelly Cat Coffee with my boyfriend and we really enjoyed ourselves. We ordered a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit and a bacon, egg and cheese burrito. The burritos and biscuits are homemade but premade; if you come later in the morning the options may be limited and you made need to ask them to reheat your meal. The biscuit itself was outrageously good. The burrito was not particularly special, although the bacon was cooked nicely.
The coffee menu is extensive and clearly well thought-out. There are hot and cold preparations, as well as pour-over options. You can sample the coffees which helps with decision-making. My white chocolate mocha left much to be desired; it tasted like raspberry for some reason. The mocha flavor is why I docked a star, since it is a coffee shop after all!
Smelly Cat Coffee ROCKS the interior. You walk in and feel immediately transported to the hippest part of Brooklyn (or should I say "hipsterest"?). The ceilings are covered in burlap sacks for coffee beans, nooks are formed with reclaimed wood (each has an outlet so that you can utilize their free Wi-Fi), a giant old-school coffee grinder provides an amazing focal point, and the walls are even faux exposed brick. There is a LOT going on but it all works together to provide a clever and cohesive ambience perfect for weekend relaxing, weekday (small) meetings, or even grabbing a quick cup to-go. There is a darling porch area with outdoor seating options. Smelly Cat Coffee is extremely animal friendly.
We will be returning to Smelly Cat Coffee to try some new items. It would be great for a long, yummy Saturday morning with a crossword puzzle.
