| - I don't even know what to say about the Pearl, really. On paper, this venue should be wonderful. Brand-new, intimate, good sight lines; phenomenal sound system. All of the staff members working at the merch table, the bar, the front of house and the ticket window were super friendly and cool.
If you have a seat, this is a great, GREAT place. If you're coming here with a general admission ticket, however, I'd urge you to reconsider. It's downright dangerous. I saw a fairly chill band at the Pearl; I can't even begin to think of what it would have been like if the crowd had been more boisterous.
Just imagine a thousand people rushing down several flights of steep stairs all at once, because the Pearl's staff couldn't be bothered to set up a line somewhere. Eventually someone's going to get seriously injured that way.
Along with this, the Pearl had the most uptight security I'd encountered in recent memory. I witnessed a guard almost start hyperventilating and physically block someone who wanted to go to the edge of the seating area to say hello to a friend in the pit before the show. They weren't going down to the pit mind you; they were just trying to talk over the barrier. Instead of harassing patrons, maybe they should be concerned about the dangerous conditions associated with their GA policies. Just sayin'.
